Although the CD is budget-priced (around $14 in the US), it contains over 50 minutes of music and is packaged very nicely with liner notes by Rob Burt who, back in 1988, remixed several of the songs for the A Touch More Schmilsson in the Night album. |

Brain in a Box: The Science Fiction Collection |
Various |
This collection documents Science Fiction's musical legacy on five CDs and 113 tracks - Movie Themes, TV Themes, Pop songs, Incidental/Lounge music, and Novelty songs. The packaging is brilliant kitsch: a 6.5-inch square, metal-lidded cube emblazoned on three sides with suitably tacky 3-D images of a floating brain. A profusely illustrated, hard-bound, 200-page book includes an introduction by Ray Bradbury and contributions from an array of notables, including Forrest J. Ackerman, Billy Mumy, Joe Dante, Dr. Demento, and Matt Groening. Includes Harry Nilsson's performance of "Spaceman." |

Harry Nilsson |
Includes an alternate version of "Joy" with an extra lead pedal steel guitar overdub and the omission of the second "...things went good, things went bad, good, bad,good,bad..." verse in favor of a steel guitar solo. The tag at the end is a different take. Last, but not least, at 1:10, Harry adds a very prominently mixed forward, weird grunt after the line "And now, every time I think of Joy, I get all weird inside." |

TV's Biggest Hits |
Jon Burlingame |
Discusses Harry's theme for "The Courtship of Eddie's Father." The Nilsson section lasts all of two pages, but it fills in a part of Harry's career that has been heretofore relegated to a TV trivia question. Harry did discuss "Eddie's Father" during a career retrospective radio broadcast a couple of years before his death, but this book tells the story from the perspective of producer James Komack, who picked Harry for the job. Brief as it is, a valuable contribution to the Nilsson literature. Out of print, but Amazon.com may be able to locate a copy for you. |
