The album contains 21 tracks spread across two CDs or cassettes. Included is a nice booklet with a biography and photographs. Released in 1994, this collection is an excellent introduction to Harry Nilsson's music.

The Point is the soundtrack of Harry's animated TV special. The Point aired on ABC TV in early 1971. The TV program was narrated by Dustin Hoffman . The album is narrated by Harry. (A video tape and laser disc release of the TV special is narrated by Ringo Starr.) The album reached #25 during a 32-week stay on the charts.

The "needle POINT" on the cover is by Kathy Torrence. The album design is by Dean O. Torrence (of Jan and Dean).

The album includes a comic book illustrated by Gary Lund.

"I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, 'Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn't, then there's a point to it.'"

The soundtrack to the film Popeye, starring Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall, was produced, and "augmented" by Harry with music arranged and conducted by Van Dyke Parks. The basic tracks were recorded on location in Malta by The Falcons (Ray Cooper, Doug Dillard, Harry Nilsson, Van Dyke Parks, Klaus Voormann, and "The Mysterious Karsten"). The album was engineered by Rick Riccio and Mike Hatcher. Harry wrote all of the songs except for "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man".

This collection was produced by Harry's cousin, Doug Hoefer, for Harry's Hawkeye Entertainment.

The Presence of Christmas on LP (without Harry's songs) was originally direct marketed by Mutual Media in November, 1986. A sixty-second TV commercial was aired in about 20 cities. Only about 100 copies of the album where sold.

Harry injured his vocal cords during the recording sessions.

After recording A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night Harry announced that he would record an album of songs by Allen Toussaint. Instead, he and John recorded Pussy Cats.
