Why would you wish to run a mailing list? What can you do with Arrow?
Create a Virtual Fan Club
Create a mailing list for fans of your favorite musical artist, movie star, or other celebrity. Announce your list using
Arrow's built-in "Announce" feature and mention it in the appropriate newsgroups and on web pages about the celebrity.
As an example, I created the "NilssonWeb" mailing list
using Arrow. The list serves as a gathering place for fans of the late Harry Nilsson
("Without You", "Coconut", "One"). Since the list started I've made friends from all over the world and have met many of
them in person.
Hobbies
Start a list about your favorite hobby. You'll "meet" others interested in the hobby and you will have the opportunity
to share your knowledge of the subject.
Support Groups
Just as a mailing list can bring people with shared interests together, a list provides a way of people with shared
problems or concerns to meet.
You can create an "anonymous" discussion list. Optionally, you can allow participants to select nicknames to be used
in the list. While Arrow can't guarantee total anonymity for subscribers, you can set Arrow to not display the address
of the subscriber who posted each message or to display only the subscriber's chosen nickname.
Support Your Product
A mailing list provides an excellent means to support a product such as a shareware program. You can run an
interactive (discussion) list allowing the users of your product to talk with your technical support staff and with
each other.
Telephone support is expensive. Managing a mailing list discussion with Arrow is not. Your technical staff can respond
to questions when convenient. They have time to research answers before responding. And the interactive nature of the
mailing list allows user to help each other. This helps you develop a community among the users of your product - making
your customers feel better about your product and providing you with continuous feedback so can improve your product.
Sell Advertising
Since mailing lists are usually targeted to people who share a specific interest, you may be able to sell advertising
to companies wishing to reach that market. Arrow allows you to define headers or footers that are added to
posted messages. You can also define "taglines" which are a special kind of footer. Tag lines are well suited
to advertising since you can define multiple tag lines. Arrow chooses a new tag line to add to each
